About Me

Hello and welcome! My name is Megan, and I live near Charleston, SC. I have a passion for garment construction, couture techniques, and pattern drafting. The most exciting things for me to sew are garments that take me to unfamiliar territory as I love to learn new things. Currently, I am building on my pattern drafting skills, traditional men’s tailoring techniques, and couture sewing techniques, but these projects seem to take forever to complete! That being said, I love the immediate gratification from a quick, uncomplicated project too!

I have been interested in sewing as far back as I can remember. When I was a small tot, I would sit next to my grandmothers at the sewing machine, study their every move, and beg them to let me try. They were too afraid I would “sew over my fingers” at the time, but as I got older, they both taught me the basics of sewing from patterns. When I turned 16, I got my first “real” sewing machine (Bernina Activa 125) and serger (Bernina 800DL) and that’s when things got serious. Ha! I say real machine because I was originally gifted my great-grandmothers treadle singer machine from the early 1910s. It was the most frustrating thing I’ve ever used, but I did make a couple (barely wearable) tops with it.

Longing for more education, I subscribed to Threads Magazine and read books like Couture Sewing Techniques by Claire Shaeffer (still a favorite) and purchased a few textbooks about fashion design. In my early twenties, I was lucky enough to get a job at a bridal shop doing alterations where I learned more about evening gown foundations, special evening wear construction, veils, and bustles!

When I’m not making clothes, I am gardening, reading interior design blogs, working as a registered nurse, or spending time with my husband and our dog, Tex.
